Learners should ideally be aged 18+ (parental permission will be required for anyone under 18). This is for learners wishing to draw from a nude model. Beginners are welcome to join and learn the basics. Experienced learners can work at their own level with or without the tutor's help. Materials can be bought as the course progresses and these are not expensive.

There is no better way to improve skills in drawing than drawing the figure. Many professional artists who do not paint the figure in their work practice figure drawing each week similar to a pianist who practices scales each day.

The course covers:

academic figure drawing developing skills in dimensions of the figure - an absolute essential - observation of shapes, line and tone.  Sometimes the whole figure, sometimes particular areas in "more detail" where muscles and bones can be drawn in detail.

exploring ways of expressing the figure by means of using different materials and in a creative, exploratory way, pastel, paint, ink, collage etc.

starting off point in both is by means of charcoal - a flexible medium. So you will need charcoal, some white chalk, preferably coloured pastel paper to work on and ca can of cheap hair spray to "fix" your drawing.

Please bring charcoal to your first class although different materials will be used throughout the course. There will be an additional sum payable for the model (usually between £2.50 - £3.00, payable on the day).
